Google’s AI Revolution: Can It Beat Math Olympiad Gold Medalists?

Google’s AI Revolution: Google has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) math system. Along with this, Google has claimed that its system can beat gold medalist humans in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). AlphaGeometry 2, the AI Problem Solver, can solve 84 per cent of the geometry problems presented in the IMO. While gold medalists can solve only 81.8 per cent of the problems in the International Mathematical Olympiad on average.

IMO questions are very difficult

IMO questions are known for their difficulty and solving them requires a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. AI models have not been able to achieve this mathematical concept till now. Developed by DeepMind and managed by AlphaGeometry. The system was able to perform at the level of silver medal winners when it was unveiled in January last year. However, a year later, Google claims that the performance of its upgraded system has surpassed the level of average gold medal winners.

Google, a company based in Mountain View, California. They said that to enhance the capabilities of this system, it has expanded the original AlphaGeometry language. So difficult problems related to the motion of objects. Problems related to the linear equation of angles and problems related to ratios and distances can be solved. The company further said that along with other additions, the coverage rate of the Alpha Geometry language on IMO 2000-2024 geometry problems has been improved. After which the ability to solve mathematics questions has increased from 66 percent to 88 percent. Using its cutting-edge Gemini AI tool, Google has also improved the search process of AlphaGeometry2, making it better at language modelling.

Capable of solving linear equations of math

Google said that the team has also given the AI the ability to reason by rotating geometric objects around a plane surface. For example, it can move a point along a line to change the height of a triangle. And it is also capable of solving linear equations. Google said that despite achieving an incredible efficiency rate of 84 per cent in solving difficult mathematical problems, there is still room for improvement.
