How the Scam Worked
– Velpula Ramulu, a retired Panchayati Raj employee, passed away in 2012.
– His family hid his death and continued to withdraw his pension.
– They found another man in the same village with the same name and father’s name.
– This mentally unstable man was used to submit life certificates every year to prove the pensioner was alive.
– The scam went unnoticed for 12 years and they stole lakhs of rupees from the government.
How the Fraud Was Exposed
The truth emerged when officials stopped the mentally unstable man’s old-age pension. His family contacted government officials to restart the payments. During verification, officers discovered that he was receiving a service pension despite never working as a government employee.
Velpula Ramulu’s grandson, Karthik, grew suspicious after finding his grandfather’s name in pension records. He investigated and discovered that another family had been misusing his grandfather’s identity. He reported the fraud to the Hasanparthi police.
Police Investigation Underway
– A case has been registered and police have started collecting evidence.
– Officials are examining pension records, bank statements and service documents.
– The family members involved in the scam may face serious legal action.
Pension Scam: The fraudsters’ actions have sparked widespread criticism. Shockingly, even Ramulu’s two sons are government employees, raising questions about how they could cheat the government for so long. Authorities are under pressure to take strict action against all involved and prevent such scams in the future.
