While Akashteer has been called India’s ‘Iron Dome’, the system is different in several critical respects from the Israeli system. While the Iron Dome is mostly employed to shoot down short-range rockets, Akashteer is a command and control system, combining multiple air defense assets, which collectively form a large canopy.
The induction of Akashteer on a mission of success is a milestone for India’s air defense.
