Hyderabad Metro Rail Expansion: The Hyderabad Metro Rail is already speeding towards realizing its ambitious expansion, and the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the key corridors of Phase 2B have now been finalized. The new corridors, with an aim to improve urban connectivity, will improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and address Hyderabad’s increasing infrastructure needs. The DPRs, proposed by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Board, are under consideration of the Telangana government prior to tabling them before the Central government for approval.
The expansion proposal has proposed three major corridors of 86.1 km costing ₹19,579 crore. The proposed corridors have been directed at increasing the carriage of passengers as well as the carriage system in Hyderabad.
1. JBS-Medchal Corridor
Length: 24.5 km
Stations: 18
Type: Entirely elevated line for smooth movement
2. JBS-Shameerpet Corridor
Length: 22 km
Stations: 14
Type: 20.35 km elevated, 1.65 km underground at Hakimpet Air Force Station
3. RGIA-Future City Corridor
Length: 39.6 km
Stations: Various important stops between Shamshabad International Airport and Skills University
Type: 1.5 km underground, 21 km elevated, 17 km at grade
These corridors will redeveloped to provide a greater degree of connectivity to the airport for economic growth. Reduce the time of travel of commuters, and act as a link in integrating Shamshabad International Airport with the possible business and educational centres to transform Hyderabad into a smart city.
The Telangana government is now reviewing DPRs, which would subsequently be sent to the Central government for sanction. Subsequently sanctioned, construction schedules and the allocation of funds would become final.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2B extension is one step towards the right direction of recontouring the face of the city of the transportation system. With more connectivity and converging infrastructure development, the corridors will render the city a convenient and accessible city to work and reside in, making Hyderabad capable of developing as a metropolitan city.
