The case on Ibomma Ravi has taken a new turn as he has been remanded to police custody once again. The Nampally court has granted the request for three days of custody so that authorities can continue their probe into the case. According to officials, the renewed custody starts from today onward until Saturday.
According to investigations, that was not the case with Ravi in the earlier part of the interrogation-the cybercrime officials had some further development linking him to the case that needed to be followed and, thus, sought additional custody. Cybercrime police will be taking him from Chanchalguda jail for a 10-hour interrogation window each day after the court grants permission and transferring him back to Central Crime Station (CCS) after that.
Authorities are convinced further of questioning based on discovering the larger network allegedly associated with the illegal operations purported by the investigation.
Police sources say that a key part of the ongoing investigation is identification of persons linked to Ravi’s network. Police officers suspect that there might be a number of accomplices who have been running parts of the operations and thus make tracking the points of origin and flow very difficult.
One of the major challenges investigators are facing is that persons associated with the network are using masked or hidden IP addresses. This has delayed the inquiry because cybercrime teams now have to track the footprints and ascertain that multiple actors are indeed involved.
Besides digital evidence, police have also purportedly initiated inquiries relating to financial transactions that the police suspect are related to the case. The investigation is said to include investigations of accounts linked to NGLA upon which some kind of transfers or money flows might appear, which would shed light on further links to the alleged activity.
An extension of custody, police believe, will help with some clearer leads as the inquiry progresses and build up the case for possible prosecution in the future.
