India has surpassed Pakistan in the number of nuclear weapons

India and Nuclear Weapons: India has surpassed Pakistan in the number of nuclear weapons. Reports indicate that we currently have more nuclear weapons than our neighbour. While India had 174 nuclear weapons last year, the number has recently reached 180. As for Pakistan, the report says that its neighbour has 170 nuclear bombs. The report also reveals that India has the capacity to manufacture another 200 nuclear weapons.

A shock for Pakistan?

The news that has scared Pakistan so much is that Pakistan, which has been flabbergasted by the nuclear weapons it has so far, is now in a situation where it has to turn its back. India has overtaken its cousin Pakistan in the nuclear weapons race. Scientists from the Federation of American Scientists have revealed this. They said that the number of nuclear weapons currently possessed by India has increased to 180. When it comes to Pakistan, the number of nuclear weapons possessed by our cousin country is 170. That is, we have 10 more nuclear weapons than Pakistan.

The Federation of American Scientists estimated two years ago that the number of nuclear weapons in Pakistan would reach 200 by 2025. However, it is believed that Pakistan has not been able to increase the number of warheads due to the deteriorating economic situation.

Nuclear weapons are possessed by just 9 countries in the world

Looking at the world as a whole, a total of 9 countries possess nuclear weapons. These nine countries have a combined total of 12,331 nuclear weapons. Our neighbor China has a total of 600 nuclear weapons.

The report, titled States of the World’s Nuclear Forces, shows that China and India have gradually increased their nuclear weapons. The report also reveals that North Korea, Britain, Pakistan, and Russia are making efforts to increase their nuclear capabilities. According to the latest reports, the United States and Russia hold about 88 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons. The efforts being made to reduce nuclear weapons around the world are gradually decreasing.

Reports reveal that there are 12,331 nuclear warheads in the world. Of these, 9604 warheads are in military possession for use on missiles, fighter jets, warships, and submarines. The United States, Russia, Britain, and France together have about 2100 nuclear weapons. They can be used to create havoc in a very short time. Countries that have nuclear weapons are not focusing on reducing their number. Moreover, the respective countries are trying to modernise the nuclear weapons they have.

India’s nuclear weapon increase

As for India, the number of nuclear weapons we have now increased from 174 to 180 last year. Pakistan has only 170 nuclear weapons. India is one of the few countries that can produce enriched uranium (HEU) and weapons-grade plutonium. HEU is used in nuclear submarines.

In 2023, an international panel estimated that India had 680 kg of plutonium available for nuclear weapons. It said that this could produce about 130-210 nuclear weapons. India has the capability to launch nuclear strikes from land, air and water, and has the Agni series of nuclear missiles, as well as Mirage fighter jets that can launch nuclear bombs. The country is developing nuclear submarines that can launch nuclear strikes from the sea.

India and Pakistan nuclear tests

India first conducted nuclear tests in 1974 under the name Smiling Buddha, and since then Pakistan has also been busy acquiring nuclear weapons. Just two weeks after India conducted the Pokhran-2 nuclear tests on May 11 and 13, 1998, Pakistan also successfully conducted its first nuclear test under the name Chagai-1.

India, which has been branded as a peaceful country, says that it will not launch a nuclear attack first (no first use). However, on August 16, 2019, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “So far, our policy is not to use nuclear weapons first. But what happens in the future depends on the circumstances.” This means that before Pakistan can attack India with nuclear weapons, India has the possibility of attacking with nuclear weapons. If that happens, Pakistan will be annihilated.
