India-Pakistan tensions have increased, and security has been tightened in several states. As a precautionary measure, various state governments have directed the closure of schools, colleges, and universities along border areas. India-Pakistan Tensions lead to these closed schools list, and here is a detailed description of the states where closure took place and the reasons for the shutdown.
1. Jammu and Kashmir
All the educational institutions like schools, colleges, and universities have been closed for two days as a precautionary measure. The Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) to be held on May 11 has also been put off.
2. Punjab
The government of Punjab has instructed the closure of all the schools, colleges, and universities for three days. The Panjab University in Chandigarh has rescheduled the exams that were to be held on May 9, 10, and 12.
3. Haryana
All schools in Panchkula will be closed on Friday and Saturday. Also, the leave of state police officials and health department staff has been revoked until further order.
4. Rajasthan
Schools in five border districts—Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer—have been closed. The leave of administrative and police staff deployed along the International Border has also been revoked by the Rajasthan government.
5. Himachal Pradesh
All private and government schools in Una district have been directed to stay shut on May 9.
6. Delhi
There is no official school closure order in Delhi, but some schools have decided to conduct online classes because of growing concerns.
The closures are in reaction to mounting tensions along the India-Pakistan border. The Pakistani Army had resorted to unprovoked cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, which was met with a robust retaliatory action by the Indian armed forces. Pakistan also tried to target strategic military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, which were successfully repelled by Indian forces.
Security Measures in Place
Border Blackouts: Some districts along the border have imposed blackouts as a precautionary step.
Cancellation of Police Leaves: Leaves of all police officers in border districts have been canceled to provide added security.
Boosted Surveillance: Security has been enhanced along the Gujarat coast, and more forces have been stationed in sensitive zones.
Effect on Students and Exams
The unannounced shutdowns have upset academic calendars, with a number of universities delaying examinations. Students from other states who are pursuing studies in Jammu and Kashmir have begun departing campuses because of concerns for safety. The ambiguity around the situation has been a source of widespread concern for students and parents. The shutdown of schools in several states is an indication of the seriousness of the current India-Pakistan tensions. Although these actions are intended to protect students and teachers, they also reflect the extent to which geopolitical tensions affect everyday life. The authorities are still keeping the situation under watch, and additional decisions on the reopening of schools will be made depending on security evaluations.
