India’s Largest Renewable Energy Complex in AP: Rs 22,000 Crore Investment

India’s Largest Renewable Energy Complex in AP: Rs 22,000 Crore Investment

India’s Largest Renewable Energy Complex in AP: India’s largest renewable energy firm, ReNew Power is coming back to Andhra Pradesh in a major way with an investment of Rs 22,000 crore. The humongous project will set up India’s largest renewable energy complex, a giant leap towards green energy solution.

Project Overview: Solar, Wind, and Battery Storage

The Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh facility will have:

1,800 MW solar power plant

1,000 MW wind farm

2 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS)

100-kilometre extra-high voltage (EVH) transmission line

The project would be split into two halves and in phase one would be having 587 MW of solar power, 250.8 MW of wind power, and a 415 MWh battery storage power plant.

Government Support and Policy Change

The strategy has received the government support for its inclusion in the clean energy policy overhaul, unveiled last October 2024. It is a cleaner energy investment revolution in the state after a five-year hiatus provoked by policy indecision.

Problems and Ways to Revitalisation

In 2019, the old Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government reversed and re-negotiated power purchase agreements (PPAs) of 5.2 GW solar and wind power projects. This dissuaded major renewable energy companies such as ReNew Power, ACME Solar, Greenko Holding, and Azure Power, and stalled fresh investments.

The new N Chandrababu Naidu government was unable to restore investor confidence, and the return of ReNew Power is the result.

Influence on India’s Future Renewable Energy

The project will be able to assist India in the area of clean energy, weaning the country off fossil fuel, and opening up thousands of job opportunities. It also consolidates Andhra Pradesh as India’s trailblazer state during the green energy age.

A Step Towards Sustainability

ReNew Power’s initial investment marks the turn of the corner of India’s renewable sector. Guided by vision and supported by the government, this project has the potential to catapult Andhra Pradesh to the status of the hub for renewable energy and propel India towards the realization of its net-zero vision.
