The travelers going to cities like Nagercoil, Mysuru, Bengaluru, and Tirunelveli by the Vande Bharat Express trains were complaining about the elimination of non-vegetarian breakfast options. IRCTC Removes Non Veg suddenly without any notice, and therefore a large number of travelers were not satisfied.
Passengers Find the Change
At the time of ticket purchase from the IRCTC app, the passengers were greeted with an alert message stating, “Non-veg option is applicable for Lunch and Dinner only.” But on board the train, no non-vegetarian food was given to the passengers even if the passengers had ordered it while booking the ticket.
Southern Railway authorities first attributed the issue to a technical error on the IRCTC app, and that non-veg food was also still an option. But the passengers claimed that their train ride contradicted these words, as only vegetarian food was being served.
Passenger Complaints and Food Quality Issues
Various categories of regular commuters have complained about the quality of food being served onboard Vande Bharat trains. Complaints are:
Softened dal and hard rotis, mealtime posing problems for senior travelers.
Tiny serving portions of rice, with the customers still hungry.
Dish menu with overbalance of North Indian food, not being suitable to some South Indian travelers.
Call for Greater Transparency and Better Food Options
The customers are asking for openness from IRCTC about the choice of meal, particularly as the cost of food has already been included in the ticket price. Most think that travelers can opt between veg and non-veg food and be openly notified of any alternatives.
The move to disallow non-vegetarian breakfast on Vande Bharat Express trains has upset passengers. While IRCTC is yet to release a formal statement, the passengers have continued calling for better food quality and simplifying the food.
