A Gen Z intern’s leave email has gone viral after being shared on Reddit. The email, titled “Going on a trip,” was posted by a user working at an AI startup. It quickly sparked both admiration and surprise among internet users.
\The post appeared on the ‘r/IndianWorkplace’ subreddit with the caption: “Corporate world is not ready for Gen Z!” The email itself read:
“Hi, feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the work, and my energy feels a little off, so not getting that vibe right now. I’ll be out from 28th July to 30th July (please don’t miss me). Here’s my train PNR XXX, and attaching the booking slip for reference. Will talk soon, bye.”
The email quickly caught attention, with many Reddit users sharing their thoughts. The Reddit user, managing a small team of three Gen Z interns, was surprised by the casual tone. In their 20-year career, they had never received such an email. Though shocked, they appreciated the intern’s honesty.
Several users praised the email for being bold and refreshing. One user commented, “Gen Z can send such an email because they’ve grown up with economic comfort.”
While some admired the approach, others questioned the professionalism of the message. One user remarked, “This is not how you email seniors or colleagues.” Another, identifying as Gen Z, added, “I’d never send a message like that.”
However, many users defended the intern’s tone, pointing out that the email emphasized the need to normalize mental health and work-life balance in the workplace. One user said, “This just shows a healthier work environment.”
