Israel Bombs Iran:
In a significant escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Iran following Tehran’s attack with 15 ballistic missiles targeting Israeli cities. These developments have heightened fears of a full-blown war involving multiple nations and have drawn global attention.
On Monday, Iran fired approximately 15 ballistic missiles, some of which struck Israeli territory. Sirens echoed across Jerusalem and northern Israel, and people heard explosions in cities like Ashdod. This attack came just a day after the United States conducted precise airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
In retaliation, Israel bombed several key locations in Iran, including the controversial Evin Prison. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike and stated that authorities held political dissidents and opposition voices at the prison, a known site for such detentions.Other targets included command centers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), military bases, and intelligence facilities.
The Israeli military also reported damaging six Iranian military airports, destroying fighter jets, helicopters, and damaging underground military facilities. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated that the attacks were part of an effort to gain air superiority in Iranian airspace.
Iran, in turn, responded with more threats and actions. Its recent missile barrage, termed “True Promise 3,” targeted major Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Haifa. Iranian officials warned the U.S. of “serious consequences,” blaming former President Donald Trump for starting a conflict that Iran vowed to finish.
The situation has alarmed global leaders. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging for calm and a return to dialogue. China strongly condemned the U.S. attacks on Iran, calling them a violation of international law. The United Nations held an emergency session, with Secretary-General António Guterres warning that military actions could destabilize the entire region.
Former U.S. President Trump claimed that the strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities caused “monumental damage,” especially underground, where key uranium-enriching equipment was believed to be housed. He urged Iran not to retaliate further and insisted that peace must now be the focus.
Military experts believe that the U.S. used powerful bunker-buster bombs and cruise missiles launched from submarines to target Iran’s underground facilities. Satellite imagery indicated substantial destruction, though independent verification is still pending.
As the crisis unfolds, the international community is calling for restraint from all sides. The fear is that continued military aggression could spark a wider war involving neighboring countries and global powers. The next steps taken by the U.S., Iran, and Israel will be crucial in determining whether diplomacy can win over destruction.
