Kaleshwaram Barrages Declared Unsafe – NDSA Report Exposes Serious Flaws

Kaleshwaram Barrages Declared Unsafe:
Kaleshwaram project was one of the most ambitious projects taken up by KCR after becoming the first Chief Minister of Telangana. It was launched with high expectations and publicity. KCR believed this project would earn him the support of farmers and keep him in power for a long time. He hoped it would bring him a third consecutive win in elections. But just days before the elections, cracks appeared in the project structures. That became one of the major reasons for KCR’s defeat.

Kaleshwaram Barrages Declared Unsafe:
Now a new report brings more bad news about the project. The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has submitted a report on the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages. These structures were built under the Kaleshwaram project. The report says they are unsafe and cannot be used. If used, there is a risk they could collapse at any moment. It clearly states that they should be redesigned and rebuilt. The report also mentions serious issues in both design and construction quality.

In all three barrages, the cement piles collapsed. Holes were found both on top and beneath the structures. These findings came after a detailed 14 month study. The report also revealed that essential soil testing was not done before construction. Annaram and Sundilla barrages were shifted from their original proposed locations without proper analysis.

The NDSA also pointed out that the conditions of the barrages before the monsoon were not reviewed, which is required under the National Dam Safety Act, 2021. This raises big concerns over planning and safety checks.

These findings are likely to create major political ripples in Telangana. The Justice Ghosh Commission, which is already investigating irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, will treat this report as crucial evidence. It may lead to questions for key leaders like Harish Rao and KTR, who played important roles during the BRS government. Experts believe this is a big setback for BRS and may impact its political future.
