Lost Your Train Ticket?: Follow This Trick to Get It Back

Lost Train Ticket: Indian Railways operates the largest rail network in the world. Every day, millions of people travel by train across the country. For long-distance journeys, the railway remains the most preferred and affordable mode of transport. Indian Railways offers the cheapest travel option, making it accessible to people from all walks of life. It also plays a crucial role in boosting the country’s economy.

However, some passengers lose their tickets during travel, which can turn into a major inconvenience. Many don’t know what steps to take in such situations. So, what happens if you travel without a ticket? And what should you do if you lose your ticket mid-journey? Let’s explore the answers to these important questions.

Lost Train Ticket: What Happens
If you lose your ticket and continue the journey without it, you could face serious trouble. According to Indian Railways rules, anyone caught traveling without a ticket must pay a fine equal to twice the ticket fare. If the passenger fails to pay the fine, authorities will escort them off the train at the next station and hand them over to the Railway Police.

Things To Do:
Passengers often lose their tickets while traveling with children or due to other reasons. In such cases, you are not immediately considered a ticketless traveler. However, if you misplace your ticket, you should immediately contact the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner). By sharing your ticket-related details with the TTE, you can request a duplicate ticket. Keep in mind, this service isn’t free, you’ll need to pay a fee and present valid ID proof to get the duplicate.

If you’ve booked your ticket online, there’s no need to worry about losing a physical copy. You can simply show your e-ticket on your mobile phone to the TTE and continue your journey without any issues.

Buying a Ticket in mid-trip?
If you need to travel urgently and board the train without a ticket, you must contact the TTE immediately after boarding. The TTE can issue you a ticket, but only if there are vacant seats available on the train. Keep in mind, this emergency arrangement comes at a cost. You’ll have to pay more than the regular ticket fare for the journey.

Refund on Delays:
According to the railway guidelines, if your train is delayed for more than 3 hours, you are eligible to get a refund for the ticket. For this, you need to submit a TDR ( Ticket Deposit Receipt) at the ticketing counter.
