Major Earthquake Hits Pakistan – Tremors Felt in Neighboring Regions

Earthquake Hits Pakistan: On May 5, 2025, a powerful earthquake struck Pakistan, causing panic and damage in the affected areas. According to the National Seismology Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at 4 PM local time. The epicenter was located in Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghanistan Tajikistan border.

Earthquake Hits Pakistan:

The quake originated 10 kilometers beneath the surface due to movement of tectonic plates. The tremors were felt in surrounding regions including parts of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. People in Chitral and nearby areas rushed out of their homes in fear, as buildings shook and some structures suffered cracks and minor damages. Although there are no confirmed reports of deaths so far, damage to property has been reported.

Pakistan lies in a seismically active zone where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates meet. This makes it prone to frequent earthquakes. Areas like Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and Punjab often experience mild to strong tremors. Experts warn that such regions should always be prepared for potential natural disasters.

This earthquake reminds people of past devastating quakes in South Asia. Recently, strong earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand led to the deaths of around 3,700 people and injured over 5,500. Many buildings collapsed, and rescue operations took days to uncover trapped victims.

In Pakistan, though this quake was not as destructive, the fear and panic it caused show the importance of disaster readiness. Authorities are currently assessing the full extent of damage. Emergency teams are on standby, and people have been advised to remain cautious in case of aftershocks.

Geologists and seismologists continue to monitor the region closely. Citizens are urged to follow safety instructions and stay alert for further updates. This event is a reminder that natural disasters can strike suddenly, and preparedness is key to saving lives.
