Malaysia Gas Pipeline: Authorities ordered residents to evacuate from surrounding residential areas after a gas pipeline run by Malaysia’s national energy company Petronas caught fire, causing a major explosion on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. According to the fire brigade, up to 33 persons were hurt in the incident, six of whom were admitted to the hospital.
According to a statement from Selangor state fire officials, there have been no recorded casualties thus far, and efforts are being made to combat the fire. Videos of the incident, which show a plume of smoke after a fiery mushroom cloud soaring into the sky, were extensively shared on social media.
According to the statement, “a gas pipeline leak stretching approximately 500 metres (1,600 feet)” caused the fire, which could be seen for kilometers. According to reports, Malaysia’s state-owned oil company Petronas has closed the valve to the impacted pipeline.

Around 8:10 a.m., local media reported that the Fire Department got a distress call regarding the incident. According to reports, the mishap caused multiple residences to catch fire, and some people were trapped inside the flames, though it’s unclear how many.
The fire, which erupted in residential districts in Kuala Lumpur, a Muslim-majority city in Malaysia, forced residents from their homes during Eid celebrations. According to the fire service, the scope of the fire in the residential neighborhood is still being investigated.
