Meta Eyes US Defense Market with Strategic AI Hiring Drive

Meta Eyes US Defense Market with Strategic AI Hiring Drive

AI Hiring Drive:

Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, is now hiring former US national security and Pentagon officials. The goal is to help Meta promote and sell its artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) services to the US government. According to a report by Forbes, this move is part of Meta’s plan to enter the government tech market, which includes defense and national security.

AI Hiring Drive:

Recently, Meta introduced its AI model called Llama for military use. To support its efforts, the company has opened six new job roles. These include positions for public policy managers, with at least one role focused on working with the White House. Candidates for these roles are expected to have previous experience in security and a history of working with the Pentagon.

One of the job descriptions mentioned in the report clearly states that the selected person would lead Meta’s communication with national security and foreign policy departments in the US government.

This is not the first time Meta has hired individuals with government backgrounds. In January 2025, Meta brought on board Francis Brennan, a former advisor to President Donald Trump, to handle company communications in Washington, D.C. Another hire reportedly worked in a US federal agency for over ten years.

Although Meta has not announced any official contracts with the Pentagon or NSA, the company is following in the footsteps of other tech giants like Google and OpenAI, who are also trying to tap into government projects.

Experts believe Meta is shifting focus because the civilian use of AI may not bring the expected profits. Instead, defense and government projects offer more long-term funding opportunities. As one expert put it, “If you want funding that never stops, you go to the Pentagon.”

Meta has not given any public comments about these hiring moves, but this strategy shows a clear intent to expand its business into government sectors.
