Hyderabad’s Charminar and bustling Lad Bazaar are in line for a facelift to enhance their historical sheen and tourist interest. Restoration work, which was initiated on Tuesday, is aimed at enhancing the environment, adding improved infrastructure and making the area ready for future cultural activities, including the Miss World Heritage Walk on May 13.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed several upgradations like repairing road work, sanitation and landscaping work, to make the area more appealing. Special date palm plants are installed opposite City College and Petalburj to make the old area look beautiful.
Decorative lighting and infrastructure development
To upgrade the market environment, decorative lanterns are being refurbished along a 300-meter stretch of Lad Bazaar, which is also intended to be high wind resistance-capable. The ornate details should add architectural grandeur to the building without watering down its heritage. Improved street lights will make the area more appealing, especially in the evening.
Improved security and tourists’ convenience
In preparation for the swelling number of visitors, security measures are being strengthened. The authorities have been deploying women police personnel to the site to enable visitor convenience that is secure and accessible. Pilot tours using tourist buses have also been done with a view to organize traveling arrangements for convenient accessibility of the site by local tourists and travelers.
Spurbing local economy and tourism
The project aims to accrue benefits to local business, particularly the Lad Bazaar bangles, jewellery and bridal trade. Not only will it get the site ready for the Miss World contest but also render it more attractive as a future tourist venue, giving visitors something new to experience.
