The initial part of the year 2025 saw one festive event in Bengaluru that had begun on a grand note but turned out to be an outright failure and tragedy. The stampede, reports indicate, said to be lacking any such crowd management system, claimed over a dozen lives and injured hundreds. It was witnesses who attributed the tragedy to a shortage of adequate exits and no emergency staff. The incident has generated serious questions about event safety, crowd management, and accountability.
On 12 June 2025, Air India flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed immediately after take-off. The Boeing 787-8 had 242 on board, including passengers from India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada. 241 lives were lost in the disaster, with only one survivor. The crash is one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters and has prompted a full-scale inquiry. Air India has reached out to families and started hotline services for bereaved relatives.
