Mumbai faces 24-hour water supply cut today: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 24-hour water supply cut that will commence on Wednesday, May 28, at 10 am and lasting until Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10 am in some parts of Mumbai. The cut is planned due to urgent maintenance and improvement work of major pipelines and valves located across the city.
According to BMC officials, the water supply cut is necessary because the aging pipelines need to be replaced. And properly aligned valve systems need to be upgraded. The work involves plugging a 1,200 mm water main located at Nawanagar and Dockyard Road along with upgrading the valves at the Bhandarwada reservoir. These upgrades are aimed to develop proper water pressure, and ensure proper water supply in the future.
A Ward: Naval Dockyard area, St. George Hospital surroundings; P D’Mello Road; RBI locality; Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg
B Ward: Dongri, Umar Khadi, Noorbagh, Walpakhadi, Maheshwari Road, Keshavji Naik Road, Palk Road, and other inner lanes.
E Ward: Madanpura, Nagpada, Dockyard Road and some parts of Byculla.
The BMC has requested residents to secure enough water ahead of the supply cut and to be mindful of water use while the cut occurs.

While the shut-off takes place, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued out a weather alert for Mumbai. Heavy rains with thunderstorms and high winds are expected for the next 48 hours with low-lying areas expecting significant waterlogging and possible power outages.

After your water supply resumes, please remember to run the water for a few minutes and boil it before using just to be safe.

While inconvenient, the BMC’s water distribution system. It is decades old and inconveniences like this are imperative to upgrade the City’s water distribution system. The BMC has assured residents that the only way to improve long term reliability and service quality is to keep upgrading.
