Mumbai Local: The Railway Board has declared that all rakes now being produced for the Mumbai Suburban Railway network will have automated door-closing systems installed as part of a major safety improvement. This action aims to improve operational efficiency and passenger safety on one of the world’s busiest commuter rail networks.
The implementation of automated doors is anticipated to lower the possibility of mishaps brought on by people getting on or off moving trains, which is a frequent problem in Mumbai’s congested suburban system. A significant step toward modernizing will be taken when the new facility is put in all future racks.
Overcrowded Trains:
Extreme overcrowding on the moving train caused the tragedy and led to at least five deaths. Early reports reveal that several passengers lost their balance and fell onto the tracks while the train was in motion.
Following the accident, the Railway Board issued an order confirming that all rakes currently under production for Mumbai’s suburban network will include automated door-closing systems. This move aims to prevent passengers from falling out of moving trains. It also addresses long-standing safety concerns related to open-door travel on Mumbai’s overcrowded local trains. As part of broader railway safety reforms, authorities will conduct safety assessments and investigations on India’s busiest suburban train line.
