Mumbai Worli Underground Metro Station Flooded: Heavy rain on Monday caused underwater flooding at Mumbai’s new Worli metro station on Aqua Line 3. Because monsoon rains came earlier than usual, the incident has made many people question if the metro system is prepared for the coming monsoon.
India’s meteorological department had predicted above-average rainfall for next year. But the fact that the monsoon has arrived in May has surprised many people. The monsoon usually arrives in early June in Mumbai, but torrential rains have already started causing daily problems and issues for city infrastructure. If it keeps raining, Mumbai could face its worst flooding yet.
The metro station at Acharya Atre Chowk, on the BKC-Worli line, was hit especially hard. Because the station was under knee-deep water, metro authorities halted running trains in that area. Videos on social media show water leakage through the roof and steps of the station, leading many to ask if the drainage and building work was done properly.
All services in the Acharya Atre Chowk to Worli sector were stopped, but trains continued running on the Aarey JVLR-Worli section. MMRC said that the flooding was due to water leaking from an incomplete entry/exit point. And did not involve the main operational line. Efforts to fix and clean up are taking place right now.

Since heavy rain is coming soon, the incident demonstrates why upgrading infrastructure is so important. Authorities are being told to:
Improve the ability of the station to manage water buildup underground
Have a full inspection done on your home before the monsoon starts.
Use fast responsive methods to handle problems caused by weather.
