Netizen’s Appreciation for Hyderabad Strikes a Chord on Reddit

Hyderabad News: A Reddit thread complimenting Hyderabad has been trending, and there have been a lot of comments supporting or agreeing with the original post. The initial post was from someone who visited the city for the first time to attend a visa appointment. The author was pleasantly surprised how friendly, welcoming, and enjoyable their overall experience was in Hyderabad! The author mentioned everything from the airport, to the hotel, to the beautiful skyline view, to the wonderfully constructed roadways, to ample food options, but most importantly, the pleasant vibe and friendliness of the people who resided in Hyderabad.

Inclusivity with Language is a Characteristic Distinguishing Hyderabad

One of the significant observations was the level of inclusivity regarding a typical language barrier in the city. The original poster stated that being a non-English speaker made Hyderabad different than other metro cities because the residents did not make them feel uncomfortable, or make them feel ashamed about not being able to speak the local language. The original poster stated the locals were nice, as they offered to try and teach them a few words in Telugu, which was deemed a similar interest to the self-identifying cultural open-mindedness represented by many of the users commenting on the thread.

The appreciation post also garnered comments from residents. One poster, originally from Kerala, recounted, having lived in Hyderabad since 2012, drastic changes as of the onset of the pandemic. They had lived in the area of Gachibowli–Kondapur and said when they recently returned from an extended absence, new flyovers and buildings were quickly constructed, and there was a lot of construction taking place. They remarked that Hitec City and Cyberabad, evolved into new urban centers, while now living in ECIL/Sainikpuri area is considered prium space that is quiet, and not as congested as many IT corridors.

A City of Contrasts

Several agreed that Cyberabad and the periphery were developing and organized in terms of cleanliness, planning and modernity, while the inner city is like any other typical Indian city. What struck me, and others, from the many comments in support of the post, was the majority agreed that Hyderabad is an amicable city and that there is no discrimination in terms of language, which, of course, is something to value.
