New Delhi Stampede: Can the New Crowd Control Measures Save Lives?

New Delhi Stampede: Indian Railways Crowd Management System: 18 people lost their lives. About 25 people were seriously injured in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. Given the situation, the Central Government has prepared a crowd management plan in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways and the Railway Department. Under this plan, there is a plan to create permanent holding zones at 60 railway stations. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used to manage crowds and crises. Local officials will be made aware and trained to deal with emergencies. Sign boards and dividers will be made to guide passengers about the holding zone.

200 CCTVs installed at Delhi Railway Station

The Central War Room at 35 railway stations connected to Prayagraj will be monitored from the head office. People sitting on bridges and stairs built for pedestrians at railway stations will be monitored with cameras. 200 CCTV cameras have been installed at New Delhi Railway Station alone, which will be monitored from the control room. 90 per cent of the devotees coming to the Maha Kumbh come from a radius of 300 km from 4 states, due to which special surveillance is being kept at busy stations. The Railway Department will run a special campaign to identify crowd-related problems and take feedback from passengers, porters and shopkeepers. Further planning will be done based on suggestions and feedback.
