New SBI Credit Card Rules From September 1: Check Details Here

SBI Credit Card: SBI Card is one of the most widely used credit cards in India. Until now, cardholders earned reward points on almost every transaction, online shopping, bill payments, ticket bookings, and even gaming. These points could then be redeemed for shopping or used to clear outstanding bills. But this is about to change. Starting September 1, SBI Card will roll out new rules.

From that date, no reward points will be given on transactions made on digital gaming platforms or government-related payments. This means if you purchase gaming credits or pay bills and fees on government websites using your SBI Card, you will not earn any points. The new rules specifically apply to Lifestyle Home Center SBI Card, Lifestyle Home Center SBI Card Select, and Lifestyle Home Center SBI Card Prime. Holders of these cards will be directly affected.

In addition, redeeming reward points will now come with a cost. Cardholders must pay ₹99 plus tax while redeeming points, whether for physical products or as statement credit. There will be no exemption. Moreover, reward points will remain limited to a single card and cannot be transferred from one card to another. Another important change: cardholders can only repay loans using reward points if they have at least 2,000 points. For example, if you have 1,999 points, you cannot use them, you must reach the 2,000 mark.

SBI is not alone in tightening rules. HDFC Bank already stopped giving reward points for online skill-based gaming transactions from July 1. As a result, cardholders’ expected benefits are shrinking. In short, from September 1, SBI cardholders will no longer earn reward points on online gaming or government bill payments. This is a key update every SBI credit card user must know.
