North Goa fire accident: The late night inferno that swept the well-known club Birch on Romeo Lane sent a trembling noise throughout the Goa entertainment and tourism sector with the first official report of 23 dead and close to 50 others injured. Goa is well-known as a drinking hole for visitors as well as inhabitants.
One witness said that the club was packed with weekend revelers when the fire started about midnight. Within a few minutes, dense smoke engulfed the inside space; amidst alarm, others dashed for the exits. Some customers were said to be stuck within as flames enveloped the area.
For several hours before it was finally put out, fire and rescue teams arrived quickly to fight the fire. The scene’s photographs and films depict emergency service workers transporting the wounded away from the debris and scorched interiors.
Authorities confirmed that roughly fifty injured individuals were transferred to Goa Medical College (GMC). Medical teams have been assisting those with burns and smoke inhalation all throughout the evening. Authorities have noted that some patients are in critical condition, so the number of deaths could rise.
The government of Goa has ordered a quick inquiry into the origin of the fire, which initial findings point to electrical short circuit as the cause. Under the direction of the district collector and local police, an effort has started on recording statements and investigating possible violations of fire and safety laws for the nightclub.
CM authorities sent condolences to the grieving families of the dead and vowed severe penalties if negligence were discovered.
The whole town is grieving the tragic loss. As officials sort through the debris of the edifice, rescue efforts continue. With fresh calls for more stringent implementation of safety rules for entertainment venues, it ranks among the worst fire catastrophes Goa has suffered in recent years.
