In a major response to the recent Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists, India carried out a powerful military operation called Operation Sindoor. This mission took place just after midnight, catching Pakistan by surprise. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force all joined forces to strike nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The airstrikes were carried out using advanced Rafale fighter jets. These jets were armed with precision weapons such as SCALP missiles and Hammer bombs, which are designed for deep and accurate strikes. The targets included known locations used by terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
India said the strikes were carefully planned to avoid escalation and did not target any Pakistani military sites. The goal was to destroy the infrastructure used for launching attacks on India. According to sources, over 90 terrorists were likely killed in the operation.
Pakistan reacted strongly, calling the strikes an “act of war”. Their army responded with artillery shelling along the Line of Control, killing three Indian civilians. This marked the 13th straight day of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Pakistan also claimed that the strikes killed civilians on their side, including women and children.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the operation throughout the night and had earlier promised to take strict action against those behind the Pahalgam attack. India also informed key global powers like the US, Russia, and the UK about the operation. A statement from the Indian embassy in Washington mentioned clear evidence of Pakistani terrorist involvement.
Following the operation, flights from several northern airports like Srinagar, Leh, and Jammu were suspended. Schools and colleges in parts of Kashmir were also closed for safety reasons.
The operation has drawn international attention. US President Donald Trump called the incident unfortunate and said he expected something like this might happen.
India has made it clear that it will take strong action to protect its citizens and punish those who plan or support terrorism.
