He ordered them to be alert in view of national security and ensure that emergency systems function continuously. He suggested that steps be taken to ensure smooth supply of goods and stop fake news. Modi made it clear that all departments should focus on the situation after Operation Sindoor and work in coordination.
Pakistan is burning with Operation Sindoor, which was launched by the Indian Army in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack . Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting with secretaries of about 20 departments on Thursday after his cousin committed a misadventure on the border. On this occasion, the Prime Minister directed about 20 secretaries of about 20 key departments to be alert in the wake of national security developments. Modi suggested that steps be taken to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the systems, with special focus on the functioning of emergency systems, preparedness, emergency response and internal communication protocols. The Prime Minister issued instructions to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods, to take proactive measures without waiting for orders, and to ensure the security of key infrastructure.
According to an official statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) the day after the Indian tri-services successfully carried out air strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan, Prime Minister Modi clarified that “strong coordination between ministries and agencies is necessary to ensure smooth functioning of operations and maintain institutional stability.”
Secretaries have been directed to conduct a comprehensive review of the functioning of their departments to ensure that there is no disruption in operations and to protect them from cyber attacks. Secretaries of departments like Atomic Energy, Space, Electronics & IT, Consumer Affairs, Transport, Road, Rail, Shipping, Power, Border Management participated in this review meeting. This indicates a proper preparedness for further tension in the post-Operation Sindoor situation.
It is learnt that the concerned departments have been instructed to focus on the prices of essential commodities, vigilant purchases and to immediately stop fake news on Operation Sindoor . Each secretary was given a few minutes to explain the arrangements under their departments. ‘In the current situation, all ministries have identified their actions following the comprehensive government policy. All departments are ready to face any unforeseen circumstances,’ the government said.
For example, the focus has been on the security of infrastructure, especially bridges and overhead electrical systems, to ensure uninterrupted movement of people and goods. Security has been tightened at major ports, especially on the west coast. They have full access control systems. The government has expressed confidence that it can meet the new situation with the prices of commodities like pulses, grains and oils currently under control.
After the meeting with the Prime Minister, senior officials are reported to have held extended meetings on their action plans immediately. This is part of the Government of India’s plan to review national preparedness and inter-ministerial coordination.
