Painted Pillars In Hyderabad: Art has long been a dynamic means of conveying love, respect, and admiration — and Hyderabad has taken to this with aplomb. In an admirable attempt to harmoniously integrate culture, creativity, and civic beauty, a number of areas in the city have been turned into open-air art galleries. Of them, the bridge pillars spanning the Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Atrium Mall Road in Gachibowli have been a graphic canvas that is drawing eyeballs.
These pillars are now graced with colorful murals of international sports legends, inspiring a new generation of admiration from commuters and residents. The paintings not only honor sporting greatness but also add to the city’s visual splendor. With bold brushstrokes and realistic renderings, the murals capture the vibrancy and charisma of some of the sport world’s most recognized legends.
The images of football icons like Kylian Mbappé, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Lionel Messi, Gavi, and more are impossible to ignore — they demand attention and beg to be admired. The city has not left football alone, however. The murals pay tribute to Indian sporting icons like Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Shami, and the legend Sachin Tendulkar too.
Surely the most intriguing image for most would be the photo of Indian chess whiz and Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju, proudly on exhibition on one of the pillars by Panjagutta. His representation is in line with how the city acknowledges new talents on all fronts, not limited to popular games.
These murals are a tribute not only to the sportspersons, but also the Hyderabad spirit — of embracing excellence, diversity, and creativity. This project is a great reminder of the potential of public spaces to be made into motivational areas where greatness is celebrated and the ordinary citizen’s experience enriched.
