Pakistani beggars: The increasing number of Pakistani beggars in the Gulf countries has become a big headache for those countries. Due to this, Pakistani beggars are being deported from their countries. Saudi Arabia alone has many beggars in the country, but within a few months, it has sent thousands of them back home. It is noteworthy that the Pakistani Home Minister himself said this. It was revealed that Pakistanis were begging in 5 other countries, including Saudi Arabia, and all of them were identified and sent back.
The situation in Pakistan is deteriorating day by day. As the country’s foreign exchange reserves have completely dried up, it has to borrow from world countries and international organizations to run the government. As the prices of essential commodities in that country have skyrocketed, the common people are facing a lot of difficulties just to survive. In this context, Pakistanis have been forced to go abroad and beg. More importantly, Pakistanis are begging in the Gulf countries. In this context, in the last 16 months, Saudi Arabia has identified and sent back more than 5,000 Pakistani beggars. It is noteworthy that Pakistan’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi himself revealed this in the country’s National Assembly.
Mohsin Naqvi said that since January 2024, a total of 5,402 Pakistani beggars have been repatriated to their homeland by Gulf countries. It was revealed that there were 5,033 Pakistani beggars from Saudi Arabia alone. It was explained that 369 more Pakistanis were also caught begging in 5 other countries. Most of them were from Sindh province. It was also said that the UAE had also raised the issue of these beggars with the Pakistani government. On the other hand, Pakistan has sent more than 1 million illegal Afghans back to their country since November 2023. On this occasion, the Pakistani minister said that every country has the right to protect its borders.
Mohsin Naqvi gave this information in a written reply to a question from Pakistan Peoples Party member Sehar Kamran in the National Assembly of Pakistan. According to the details provided by the Pakistani Home Minister, a total of 5402 Pakistanis have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates since January 2024. He said that 552 Pakistanis have returned from abroad so far this year.
However, when Sehar Kamran asked for figures from the last 3 years, the Pakistani minister only disclosed the details from January 2024. Looking at the province-wise, it seems that most of those who returned from these countries are from Sindh province. Of those who were sent back because Pakistanis were begging in their countries, 2,795 were from Sindh province, while the number of those from Punjab province was 1,437.
Among these countries, Saudi Arabia sent back the most Pakistani beggars with 5033. Then Iraq sent 247. UAE sent 58 to Pakistan. On the other hand, answering another question from Anjum Akhil Khan, a member of the ruling coalition Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that more than 1 million illegal Afghans, including those holding Afghan citizen cards, have been sent back to their country since November 2023 under the resettlement plan for illegal foreigners. Naqvi clarified that every sovereign country has the right to send back illegal foreigners as part of protecting its borders and national security.
