A Singaporean Indian woman, Vaishali Bhatt, managed to escape the April 22, 2025. The terror attack happened on Pahalgam just an hour and a half after she and her husband had left the Baisaran meadows. Terrorists had attacked tourists there, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians. Shocked by the incident, Phalagam Attack Survivor’s message said that she was frustrated with the response against terrorism in the immediate aftermath. Her take totally changed upon learning about Operation Sindoor, India’s response to the attack in the form of military action.
Lashkar-linked terrorists targeted a group of tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 26 individuals, including foreign nationals. The Lashkar offshoot Resistance Front (TRF) took responsibility for the attack initially but later retracted it following international outrage. The attack prompted diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, with India threatening punitive measures, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty and withdrawing Pakistani military attaches.
Bhatt, who had been watching the news closely, was frustrated by the inaction in the first place. But upon hearing of Operation Sindoor
on May 7, she cried out uncontrollably and was moved by it. She termed the name of the operation, Sindoor, as symbolic of protection, faith, and the sacred tie that it symbolized for families who lost their loved ones in the attack.
In an interview with BJP MP Hemang Joshi, who was in Singapore as a member of an all-party delegation, Bhatt passed on her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She valued the inspiring name of the operation and stated, “No one else could have done it”.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Response
After the attack, India conducted precision attacks under Operation Sindoor, hitting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. The attacks killed more than 100 terrorists, including 10 relatives of JeM leader Masood Azhar and four close associates.
Vaishali Bhatt’s tale is a testament to the emotional effects of terrorism and the need for strong action. Her appeal to PM Modi is a voice of many who desired justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack. Operation Sindoor is a testament to strength and national defense, that such events will not occur unanswered.
