PIB reveals India Didn’t Warn Pakistan on Operation Sindoor

Press Information Bureau (PIB) denied a claim that India had issued a warning to Pakistan prior to conducting Operation Sindoor, a military operation after the Pahalgam terror attack. The denial follows reports quoting External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as saying there was previous contact with Pakistan. PIB reveals India Didn’t Warn Pakistan on Operation Sindoor.

India Didn’t Warn Pakistan on Operation Sindoor

The false information was founded on a tweet by journalist Pravin Sawhney, who stated that Jaishankar had announced that India had warned Pakistan in advance prior to carrying out airstrikes against terror centers. Sawhney ridiculed the reported statement as “bizarre,” criticizing India’s strategy on military actions.

PIB’s Official Fact-Check
PIB Fact Check Team debunked the claim on May 15, 2025, saying Jaishankar was quoted out of context and never made it. PIB said the following in a post on a social networking platform X:

“The misleading implication from External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar’s words on a social media post is that India had cautioned Pakistan before initiating #OperationSindoor. EAM has been quoted out of context and never uttered these words.”

PIB requested the people to be cautious not to fall prey to rumors.

India’s Position regarding Operation Sindoor
India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May 2025 to attack terror strongholds in Pakistan and PoK. India launched the operation following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack on 26 civilians.

Sources from the government highlighted the fact that India never issues pre-warnings while carrying out counter-terror missions, reasserting its strategic autonomy policy once again.

Misinformation about Operation Sindoor

Aside from Jaishankar misquote, PIB has also refuted a string of other false reports on Operation Sindoor, including:

False reports of Indian casualty lists on retaliatory strikes.

Deceptive images purportedly showing Pakistan firing attacks against Indian military installations.

False reporting on missile strikes on Indian defense installations.
India’s Approach to National Security
The government warned that India’s war efforts are on autopilot and cannot be interfered with by third parties. The government appealed to the public to crosscheck information from credible sources before spreading rumors.
