Aadhaar contains sensitive details like your name, address, date of birth, and biometric data. If fraudsters get access to it, they can misuse it. To prevent this, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows users to lock and unlock their Aadhaar.
1. Go to the UIDAI website: [uidai.gov.in](https://uidai.gov.in).
2. Click on “My Aadhaar” and then select “Lock/Unlock Aadhaar.”
3. Enter your 16-digit Virtual ID (VID), name, PIN code, and the captcha.
4. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
5. Submit the OTP to lock your Aadhaar.
1. Send an SMS with the text “GETOTP” to 1947 from your registered mobile number.
2. You will receive an OTP.
3. Then send another SMS: “LOCKUID <Aadhaar Number> <OTP>” to 1947.
4. Your Aadhaar will be locked within seconds.
No, once your Aadhaar is locked, it cannot be used until you unlock it. To unlock, follow the same steps on the UIDAI website.
