The central government has brought a trilingual education policy that requires all students across the country to learn Hindi and English as well as a local language. It has also explained that this principle, which is part of the national education policy, should be implemented by all states. However, some states are strongly opposed to it. They are saying that it is not right to forcefully impose languages. Especially Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala are in a fight with the center. Recently, a lawyer went to the Supreme Court.
These three states filed a petition to ensure that this policy is implemented. The Supreme Court dismissed it. It concluded that no state can be forced to implement the education policy. There is a fierce dispute between Tamil Nadu and the central government on the national education policy. While the center says that it is good to teach all languages to students, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin says that he will not allow any actions that harm his region, language and people.
But the BJP, which is in power in the country, has warned that it will grant funds to your state only if it is implemented. On the other hand, West Bengal and Kerala have also decided not to implement this education policy. Due to this, a lawyer has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. It has been stated in the petition that the states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala should ensure that the education policy is implemented in accordance with the constitution.
He also alleged that the Center is trying to implement the NEP policy to establish uniformity in education across the country, but some states are turning it into a political issue . Due to this, the state governments are denying this right to students. But he asked the court to issue orders to stop this and ensure that all students in the country get effective education. However, the Supreme Court examined this today. In the process, it asked the petitioner to tell what his connection is with this case.
The petitioner replied that he is from Tamil Nadu and is currently settled in Delhi. Responding to this, the apex court questioned why there was a need to file a petition regarding the implementation of the National Education Policy in various states when he is settled in the national capital. Dismissing his petition, it told the petitioner that his children can continue to learn Hindi in Delhi. The bench of Justices JB Parthiwala and R. Mahadevan also said that they cannot force any state to implement the education policy. But it explained that the courts can intervene if the fundamental rights of citizens are violated due to the actions taken by the state government.
