Security Tightened at Tirumala Temple Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Tirumala Temple: As tensions mounted along the India-Pakistan border, security has been beefed up at the Sri Venkateswara Temple on Tirumala hills. Being a prominent temple and attracting many pilgrims, police and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) strengthened precautionary procedures to give security to the pilgrims.

Multi-Layered Security Measures

The Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS). An elite anti-terror commando unit, along with TTD vigilance teams and police to conduct intensive security screening. Tirupati district Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Raju recently held a high-level meeting with officials to finalize security arrangements.

Tight Screening of Entry Points

Security personnel are screening all the vehicles arriving at the temple, including RTC buses, at Alipiri checkpost. Devotees approaching Alipiri Mettu and Srivari Mettu footpaths also are being searched and baggage screened to avoid any lapse in security.

Mock Drills and Preparedness

After the April 22 terror strike at Pahalgam, Kashmir, security forces organized a rehearsal drill on May 2 at Sri Kapila Theertham Temple at Tirupati. The rehearsal was carried out by TTD Vigilance, Civil Police, Bomb Squad, Reserve officials, Medical staff, Firemen, Revenue, and Traffic police, ensuring instant response measures in the event of an emergency.

Tirumala Temple Significance and Visitor Rush

Being among the richest Hindu temples in the world. More than 70,000 to 80,000 pilgrims daily visists Sri Venkateswara Temple daily. The numbers exceed 100,000 on festive days. On May 8, 71,000 devotees took ‘darshan,’ which was evidence of the massive footfall at the temple.

Keeping Devotee Safety Ensured

With more security arrangements in place, authorities want to provide pilgrims with safety and peace at Tirumala. The TTD Board of Trustees has also approved a budget of ₹5,258.68 crore for 2025-26. As well as to continue development and security improvements.
