Smita Sabharwal, a senior IAS officer in Telangana, stated on Saturday that she provided the Gachibowli police with a thorough statement regarding the publishing of an AI-generated image of a 400-acre plot of land at Kancha Gachibowli, which is located near to the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
Sabharwal, who received notice as a witness, said that the post was reshared by 2,000 people on ‘X’. She claimed she asked the police to clarify whether the same procedure (issue notices) is started for everyone.
She clarified on her Official X account by saying, “Have fully cooperated with Gachibowli police authorities, and given my detailed statement today as a law-abiding citizen under the BNSS Act. The post was reshared by 2000 individuals on this platform.
I sought clarification on whether the same action is initiated for all!”
In the conclusion she stated, “If not, this raises concern about selective targeting, that in turn compromises the #principles of #natural justice and equality before the Law.”

Sabharwal, Principal Secretary (Youth Affairs, Tourism and Culture) of the Telangana government, stated that failure to take the same step would lead to “selective targeting” issues, which would undermine the concepts of equality before the law and natural justice.
To gather information about the matter of producing and disseminating “misleading” content on social media platforms about the land parcel, the Cyberabad Police have sent a notice to the senior IAS officer for reposting the AI-generated image.
The UoH Students Union objected to the Telangana government’s intentions to build IT infrastructure and other projects on the 400-acre property, which included tree cutting and a purported threat to wildlife. The Supreme Court is now considering the case.
Case Details:
Sabharwal published a photograph that had been shared by another social media profile on ‘X’ and featured two deer, a peacock, and earthmoving machines on March 31. Following this, the IAS officer received a notice under Section 179 BNSS on April 12. On April 16, a police officer stated that the notification was intended to gather information from a witness. In the past, cases were filed about the social media publishing of certain photos. According to the police, the notification was sent out to gather information about what she posted and where she obtained it.
In response to accusations that “misleading” content was produced, shared, and posted on social media, police have filed prosecutions. By altering images and videos of the land with unconfirmed information, the complainants claimed that the content was intentionally created to incite public disturbances and incite the student body and agitating organizations to violate the peace.
