Speed Dating at ₹199 on BookMyShow: Govt Reacts Strongly

Speed Dating: In Bengaluru, something is always going on. A stampede at an IPL event a few days ago made news as multiple people were killed. The well-known ticketing website BookMyShow is now the subject of yet another scandal. One of the most renowned places in the city, Cubbon Park, has suddenly found itself at the epicenter of this storm.

⦿ What’s the Real Controversy?

Recently, BookMyShow announced plans to hold a “Blind Date” event at Cubbon Park. The platform promoted the event with the phrase, “Real relationships start with meaningful conversations and laughter.” It encouraged people to join the event for a fun and relaxing experience at a cost of ₹199. The event welcomes anyone aged 18 and above and offers a two-hour dating session. Organizers scheduled the sessions for every Sunday from August 2 to August 31. Participants can book their slots through the official BookMyShow website.

⦿ Entry Fee Starts at ₹199

The entry fee for this ‘Blind Date’ event ranges from ₹199 to ₹1499, with options at ₹399 and ₹1299 as well. Each session begins at 5:00 PM. Adults can participate, meet new people, and potentially form meaningful friendships.

⦿ Severe Criticism Over the Event

BookMyShow’s plan to host blind dating sessions at Cubbon Park triggered widespread backlash. In response, the public expressed strong outrage, and the Parks Department announced it would no longer permit such events. Officials also filed a police complaint against the platform. “We found out about the event yesterday evening. BookMyShow is charging people to set up date meet-ups between boys and girls at Cubbon Park. We’ve filed a written complaint at the police station, demanding action against the app,” said officials from the Parks Department.

Locals consider Cubbon Park the green lungs of Bengaluru. Children, senior citizens, morning walkers, cultural groups, readers, and tourists regularly visit the park. Many residents voiced anger at the idea of turning the public space into a dating venue. So far, BookMyShow has not released an official statement on whether it will go ahead with the event.
