Starbucks has outlined a bold expansion strategy to grow its presence to 1,000 locations in India by the end of FY28. With this announcement, the international coffee chain has positioned India as a key growth market. In FY25, the company opened 58 new stores, bringing its total number of operational outlets in India to 479. These stores, spread across 80 cities, reflect Starbucks’ continued efforts to expand beyond the country’s major metropolitan areas.
1,000 Stores Across India
Currently, Mumbai leads as Starbucks’ largest market in India, with 100 stores in operation. Meanwhile, Bengaluru follows with 50 outlets, reflecting the brand’s growing popularity in southern India. Looking ahead, they are planning to continue opening new stores in cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune, where it has already established a strong presence as part of their FY28 expansion strategy.
In India, Tata Starbucks, a 50:50 joint venture between Starbucks Corporation and Tata Consumer Products, manages the brand’s operations. Over the years, this partnership has played a key role in maintaining global standards while effectively tailoring the Starbucks experience to suit Indian consumer preferences.

Starbucks Brews Big Plans:
India’s growing middle class and evolving café culture have fueled a steady rise in customer demand for specialty coffee experiences. They continue to expand into tier 2 and tier 3 cities to meet this increasing demand. To support its expansion, the company plans to invest heavily in supply chain networks, local hiring, and infrastructure. As consumer habits shift, Starbucks also plans to explore new store formats, including drive-thru models and smaller-format locations. The brand aims to offer a more personalized and accessible coffee experience to a wider customer base. With a strong long-term strategy, Starbucks views its expansion in India as one of its most important global growth opportunities.
