YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia gets relief after being accused of making obscene remarks during ‘India’s Got Talent’ show. Supreme Court grants conditional permission to resume ‘The Ranveer Show’.
The Supreme Court has directed that podcast shows should be accessible to audiences of all ages. The court also said that Ranveer Allahbadia should ensure that he adheres to the norms of morality and decency. The court’s action was taken after Allahbadia’s plea that he has no other means of livelihood. Allahbadia also said in his plea that his show is the livelihood of 280 employees.
Allahbadia made the obscene remark on the show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina. He is one of the judges on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’. After the video of the obscene remark was released, there was widespread criticism against Ranveer. The video was later removed from YouTube.
Meanwhile, even though Ranveer posted a video apologizing for the incident, there was a strong demand for a case to be registered. Cases have been registered against Ranveer and India’s Got Talent in Mumbai and Assam. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has also registered a case.
An FIR was filed in Guwahati, Assam, on February 10 against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, content creator Apoorva Makhija, YouTuber Ashish Chanchalani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, and others for “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion,” according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This was immediately after the controversy broke out after Ranveer Allahbadia’s clip from the show went viral on social media.
Under provisions “79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023 read with Sec 67 of IT Act, 2000, read with Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952 read with Section 4/6 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986,” the chief minister announced that the Guwahati Crime Branch has filed a case.
