Telangana Cancels Nearly 19,000 Driving Licenses: Here’s Why

Telangana Cancels Driving Licenses: The Transport Department is taking strict action against those violating transport rules and driving recklessly in the state of Telangana. The Transport Department has revealed in a progress report released on Friday that 18,973 driving licenses have been suspended across the state from December 2023 to June 2025.


 

Officials said that serious violations such as drunk driving, speeding and driving under the influence of drugs were the main reasons for these suspensions.


Vahan Application

He said that like other states, the ‘Vahan’ application will be implemented to facilitate vehicle registration and other services. These digital services will be launched by the end of August. Transport department officials said that this will enable citizens to access transport department services quickly and easily.

Telangana Cancels Driving Licenses: EV is the reason?

He said that the Telangana government is committed to promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and also said that 100 percent road tax and registration fee exemptions are being provided without limit under the EV policy. The report revealed that exemptions worth Rs. 369.27 crore have been provided to 49,633 EVs from November 16, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Officials said that the registration code for Telangana vehicles has been changed from ‘TS’ to ‘TG’ from March 15, 2024 and that 13.05 lakh vehicles have been changed to ‘TG’ code by June 30 this year. He said that in order to test driving skills more transparently and accurately, it has been decided to convert 25 two-wheeler tracks, 27 four-wheeler and 5 heavy vehicle tracks into automated driving test tracks with advanced technology.

 

According to reports, this will increase transparency in the process of issuing driving licenses, and said that pollution testing centers will be connected to a centralized IT-based system to monitor vehicle emissions. Transport department officials said that this will help control vehicle pollution more effectively.
