Telangana: The decline in the birth rate of girls in Telangana has become a cause for concern. The birth rate of girls is lower than that of boys, lowest in the last six years. In 2022, only 907 girls were born for every thousand boys. According to these statistics, Telangana ranks third from the bottom in the country in the ratio of births of boys to girls. Only Bihar (891) and Maharashtra (906) are below Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, this ratio is recorded as 938. These details have been clarified in the 2022 Birth and Death Report released by the Central Census Department.
In 2022, about 910 girls were born for every 1,000 boys across the country. It is noteworthy that the Telangana average (907) is lower compared to this national average. Of the total births, 1.33 crore were boys (52.4%) and 1.21 crore were girls (47.6%). In 2022, only three states and union territories had more girls than boys. In Nagaland, 1,068 girls were born for every 1,000 boys, while 1,036 were born in Arunachal Pradesh and 1,027 girls were born in Ladakh.
Deaths in 2022 decreased from 102 lakh to 86.5 lakh across the country compared to 2021. However, deaths increased in Telangana and the northeastern states compared to the previous year. In Telangana, 59.8% of deaths were recorded in urban areas and 40.2% in rural areas. Among the deaths, 1.44 lakh were males, while 1 lakh were females. Births across the country increased from 2.42 crore to 2.54 crore. The net increase in the country’s population was 1.67 crore. Births were more in urban areas (56.5%) than in rural areas (43.5%) across the country. While 71.9 percent of the births registered in Telangana were in urban areas, only 28.1 percent were registered in rural areas. Out of the total births in Telangana, 3.68 lakh were boys and 3.34 lakh were girls.
