Telangana Farmers Protest: Some farmers from nearby villages organized a collective protest at the Jurala project on Tuesday. Demanding release of water from the left canal to salvage their drying crops. Shouting slogans against the government, farmers from villages such as Mulamalla, Nandimalla Guntipally, Motampally, Arepally, Kattepally, Thumpally, and others have been conducting road blockades and demanding a war footing drive.
Police moved in to attempt to break it as the protest grew stronger. There was tension as farmers and women fought ferociously with officials attempting to disperse the roadblocks. They were enraged because of the inadequate supply of water, which, in their opinion, is threatening their agricultural output heavily.
Farmers have been experiencing water shortages within their districts, and this has sparked fears of a crop failure. According to farmers, they feel that they are not being listened to amid growing outcry. The protest is an indication of growing frustration from farmers. Especially in the Chief Minister’s home district where they fear loss of their livelihood.
The agitators have threatened to keep protesting until the State government gives in to their demand for supply of water from the left canal. The farming communities look at crops in the field drying up and fear devastating losses if corrective action is not taken on a war footing.
The farmers’ protest is a sign that the government should intervene as much as water allocation is concerned. Delaying may destroy agricultural output and affect not only the farmers in the area but also the whole food supply chain in the area.
