Telangana: Governments have brought fee reimbursement with the intention of ensuring that children from poor and weaker sections should also pursue higher education, and that they should not be deterred from their studies due to financial problems. The government itself pays the college fees for those pursuing higher education like degree and engineering. In this context, the Revanth government in Telangana has taken a key decision on reimbursement. In a way, it can be said that this is a shocking matter for the students. The Telangana government has made it clear that if the students do not have 75 percent attendance, they will not get reimbursement.
The Telangana government has taken a sensational decision on fee reimbursement. It has been said that fee reimbursement will no longer be applicable to students who do not have at least 75 percent attendance in their degree, it will be cut. It was decided in a meeting of the vice-chancellors of universities that every student must strictly follow the 75 percent attendance policy, otherwise they will be ineligible for reimbursement. This meeting was held on Thursday at the office of the State Council of Higher Education. This meeting was held under the chairmanship of Balakishta Reddy. A key decision was taken in this.
They clarified that if there is no at least 75 percent attendance in the degree, such students will not be eligible for fee reimbursement. They said that the governments have issued orders on this rule in the past. However, the ECs mentioned on this occasion that it is not being implemented properly in many colleges. That is why they suggested that it should be clearly stated that fee reimbursement will be available only if there is 75 percent attendance from this academic year. It has been decided to issue orders this May.
They expressed the opinion that linking attendance to fee reimbursement will definitely make students come to colleges, which will improve the quality of education to some extent. Another key decision was also taken in this meeting. So far, the state has been implementing a system of 150 credits for a three-year degree. However, it was recently decided to reduce them to 142 during this meeting.
It remains to be seen how colleges and students will respond to the 75 percent attendance system.
