Telangana has topped the country in cotton procurement. The Union Textiles Department has announced this. The Center has procured 40 lakh bales of cotton from Telangana. Maharashtra has come second with 30 lakh bales. Out of 508 procurement centers set up across the country, 94 have been set up in Telangana. The central government has announced that it has paid a total of over Rs 37,450 crore to farmers this season.
Telangana has recorded the highest cotton procurement in the country in 2024-25. This was officially announced by the Union Ministry of Textiles on Tuesday (April 8). The Center revealed that a total of 40 lakh bales of cotton were procured from Telangana in the procurements held till March 31, 2025. However, it is noteworthy that compared to Telangana, the states that stood at the next positions are not even close. Maharashtra is in second place with 30 lakh bales. It is noteworthy that there is a difference of 10 lakh bales between Telangana and Maharashtra.
Gujarat produced 14 lakh bales, Karnataka 5 lakh bales, Madhya Pradesh 4 lakh bales, Andhra Pradesh 4 lakh bales, Odisha 2 lakh bales, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab states produced only 1.15 lakh bales, according to the figures released by the Center.
The Center has set up 508 cotton purchase centers across the country and procured 525 lakh quintals of seed cotton equivalent to 100 lakh bales under MSP. In Telangana, 94 cotton purchase centers have been set up under the auspices of CCI (Cotton Corporation of India). Through these centers, about 4.43 lakh cotton farmers in the state have sold white gold. However, the Central Government has made payments of more than Rs. 37,450 crore to 21 lakh cotton farmers across the country. However, for this season, the central government has fixed Rs. 7,121 per quintal for medium-staple cotton, while it has paid Rs. 7,521 per quintal for long-staple cotton. This is an increase of about 7 percent compared to last year.
Telangana farmers are happy with the support they have received from the center for their efforts. Representatives of farmers’ associations said that losses were avoided due to getting the right price for the crop. The state government’s encouragement and the immediate response of CCI played a key role in making Telangana the No. 1 position in cotton procurement.
