Telangana’s ‘Tree Man’: Telangana has bid farewell to one of the most renowned green heroes. Telangana Padma Shri Awardee Daripalli Ramaiah, also famous by the title “Tree Man” or “Vanajeevi,” departed for his heavenly abode at 87 years old. His lifelong commitment toward tree planting and nurturing transformed Telangana’s scenery, as reported. It is reported that he has planted over a crore saplings in his illustrious career, as per reports.
Daripalli Ramaiah’s fascination with nature developed in childhood and became a lifelong mission. He was referred to locally as “Chettu Ramaiah,” but to him, every tree was a living legacy and blessing for generations to come. His tireless endeavor played a vital role in Telangana’s environmental conservation, and his actions inspired individuals and youth. His work not only enriched local biodiversity but also mitigated the detrimental effects of deforestation and climate change on an international level.
Ramaiah’s demise has struck a chord deep in the state. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took to Twitter to break the news:
“Death of Padma Shri Vanajeevi Ramaiah. Such a shocking moment. The wildlife that planted a crore trees. Changed his last name. Ramaiah was a good environmentalist. Prayer to God to rest his soul. I put forward my wholehearted sympathies to his family members.”
These words expressed the universal sorrow of not just government servants, but of hundreds of citizens, who admired his work and affinity towards nature.
The legacy of Ramaiah is one of hope and single-minded dedication to nature. His path-breaking initiative towards plantation and his humane act in fostering nature have raised the benchmark for environmental activism in India.
