Vidiyal Travel Scheme: The Tamil Nadu government says women save 8% to 10% of their monthly salary by traveling 50 times per month through the Vidiyal Scheme.


What is Vidiyal Travel Scheme?

The Tamil Nadu government reports that women who participate in the Vidiyal Travel Scheme save 8% to 10% of their monthly salary by traveling 50 times each month. The DMK government took power in Tamil Nadu in 2021 and implemented the Vidiyal Travel Scheme soon after.


Scheme Launched On:

The DMK government took control of Tamil Nadu in 2021, and Mr. M. K. Stalin became chief minister. On the same day, he signed five documents, including one for the Scheme that provides free city bus transportation for women. Since the government launched the initiative, women have been using the buses to travel free of cost. Officials report that more than 676 women have benefited from the Travel Scheme. The program recognizes that many women work to support their families.

Many women have gained significantly from this program. The State Planning Commission conducted a study and released a report showing that each woman’s savings from the program have helped support their family’s growth. This initiative has enabled women to save up to Rs 1200 per month.

The TN government has announced the number of times a woman can travel for free under the Scheme. This program has greatly boosted Chennai women’s mobility and helped them save money. Officials revealed that a woman can save up to Rs 858 a month by traveling about 50 times month, which equals 8% to 12% of her total earnings.
