Top 5 Hacks to Cut Down Your Toll Expenses

Cut Down Your Toll Expenses:

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new feature in its RajmargYatra app that helps drivers choose routes with the lowest toll charges. This feature is especially useful for frequent highway travelers looking to save money. It will be available for public use starting July 2025.

Cut Down Your Toll Expenses:

The RajmargYatra app was launched in 2023 to give users real-time updates about amenities on Indian national highways. Now, with this latest upgrade, users can also compare toll fees for different routes between two cities and select the most cost-effective path.

According to Amrit Singh, Chief Product Officer at the Indian Highway Management Company (IHMCL), the app can show which of the available routes between cities—like Delhi to Lucknow—has the least toll. For example, users can choose between Yamuna Expressway, Ghaziabad–Aligarh–Kanpur route, or Moradabad–Bareilly–Sitapur based on toll charges.

Apart from this, NHAI has also launched a FASTag Annual Pass that costs ₹3,000. This pass allows up to 200 toll-free trips in a year on any highway. These new FASTag rules will be effective from August 15, 2025. If a user finishes 200 free trips before the year ends, they must recharge their FASTag again.

To apply for this annual pass, users can visit the NHAI website or use the RajmargYatra app. They need to upload their vehicle’s registration certificate and verify their active FASTag details before making the one-time payment.

These updates by NHAI aim to reduce travel stress, improve transparency and help citizens save on toll expenses during regular commutes.
