Trump About India-Pakistan Tensions:
On May 15, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump again said that he played a key role in calming tensions between India and Pakistan. Speaking at the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, he claimed that the situation between the two countries was becoming more dangerous, but he “helped settle” the matter.
This is the sixth time since May 10 that Mr. Trump has made such a statement. He suggested that his involvement helped stop what could have turned into a serious conflict. He told U.S. troops, “I sure helped fix the issue between India and Pakistan,” and joked that the two nations had been fighting “for about 1,000 years.”
The recent conflict began after a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people. In response, India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, targeting terror camps across the border. Pakistan reacted by attacking Indian military positions on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian forces then hit back strongly.
After several days of military action, both sides agreed to stop further fighting. On May 10, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that India and Pakistan had reached a mutual agreement to end military operations and shelling.
Mr. Trump later announced that the U.S. helped bring about a “full and immediate ceasefire” after intense talks. He said both India and Pakistan were satisfied with the peace efforts and agreed to focus on trade instead of war.
However, India has officially said that there was no foreign mediation involved in the agreement. The peace deal, according to Indian officials, was reached directly between the two countries without outside help.
Though Mr. Trump’s statements have drawn attention, there has been no confirmation from Indian or Pakistani authorities that the U.S. played a role in the ceasefire talks. Still, Trump insists that his involvement helped avoid a bigger conflict.
