He announced that a 100 percent tariff will be imposed on all films produced abroad. Trump posted this on his own social media platform, Truth Social. “The American film industry is rapidly collapsing. Other countries are offering huge incentives to attract our film production companies. This is not just business competition. This is a matter of national security. Foreign films are being used as propaganda,” Trump said in his post.
“Any film made abroad should not be imported into the United States. Therefore, I am directing the Department of Commerce and the Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of imposing a 100% tariff,” he said. “Movies should be made in America!” He raised the slogan. This decision is part of the trade war started by Trump. He has already imposed a 145% import tariff on Chinese goods , while China has also imposed a 125% tariff on American products. As a result, the global trading system has become chaotic.
According to recently released figures, the US economy shrank by 0.3 percent in the first quarter of 2025. This was mainly due to lower consumer spending and falling imports. Container bookings from China fell by 60 percent, and some shipping companies cancelled a quarter of their shipments.
