Hyderabad Welcomes Toma Terra Festival: Hyderabad will be experiencing its own brand of Spain’s world-famous La Tomatina festival. Called Toma Terra, the new event is sure to be fun with music, dance, and most importantly, a tomato fight. On May 11, 2025, at Experium Eco Park, the event will open its gates to the throngs who want to see this weird celebration.
Toma Terra draws inspiration from La Tomatina, the famous tomato-throwing festival annually observed in Buñol in Spain. While the event itself is marked with tradition. Its Hyderabad counterpart brings out a local flavor with sophisticated entertainment zones, live DJ performances, and dancing. The organizers of the event wish to offer people an experience akin to that of a carnival where foreign glitz is mixed with indigenous hospitality.
The main attraction of the festival is the eagerly awaited “tomato battle,”. In which one can have a fun food fight using more than ripe tomatoes. Special care has been taken by the organizers to ensure enough tomatoes on the day. In order to compensate for food wastage, all wastage tomatoes during the festival will be used to make manure to be used as fertilizer on the festival grounds.
Aside from the tomato toss, Toma Terra will also feature other activities that can be enjoyed by the participants. World-class DJs with live music, food booths offering local and international cuisine, and expert dance floors will be featured in the event. These are all done with the intention of giving participants an experience that is immersive and interactive.
The idea of tomato festival in India was criticized in the past on the basis of food wastage and insensitivity to culture. Toma Terra organizers have attempted to organize the festival in a sustainable and backslash-free manner. By recycling waste tomatoes and foliage, they attempt to make the festival responsible and enjoyable.
