Uttarkashi Cloudburst: Flash Floods Swallow Entire Village

Uttarkashi Cloudburst: Dharali hamlet in Uttarkashi district, a crucial stop on the route to Gangotri Dham, was severely damaged on Tuesday by a destructive flash flood that was generated by a cloudburst in the upper catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river.

Significant damage was reported in Dharali as a result of the rising water level of Kheer Gadh in the Harsil area, according to district police. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army, and municipal authorities are on the ground conducting relief and rescue efforts, according to police officials.

The ferocity of the floodwaters as they ripped through Dharali hamlet, demolishing houses, businesses, and roadways and leaving a path of muck and debris in their wake, was depicted in dramatic images. According to preliminary reports, the water has wrecked many hotels and homestays. Ten to twelve workers could be buried beneath the rubble, according to locals. Additionally, around 18 goats were washed away in the overflowing Kud Gadhera stream in the Banala Patti area of Barkot tehsil.
